It's been almost 5 years since the air of the SMALLVILLE series hit the television in 2001, starring Tom Welling as Clark Kent, running for 10 seasons from 2001 - 2011, with is being a television phenomenal and bring superhero back to the TV with ARROW, The Flash, Supergirl and others. Smallville has created a new way for superheroes to appear on TV with that they created a legacy that still lives on today. Although it stopped airing 5 years ago we still watch the show in hopes one day they will bring it back. (SPOILER ALERT, the series ended displaying Chole Sullivan with her son seven years later in the future so in 2018 it will officially be 7 years lets all hope they bring back the show!!)
What is Smallville?
- "This is the story of an amazing boy who grew up in the fields of Kansas in a little town called Smallville." - Chloe Sullivan, Finale, Part 1 (Smallville. Wiki)
- This quote at the end of the series pretty much sums up the complete plot of the Smallville series following a teenage boy called Clark Kent discovering his true identity of being a Kryptonian from outer space and dealing with all the powers he gets from the yellow sun. The show places Clark through various trials set out by his birth father Jor El in becoming the savor of Earth and bringing hope back in the lives of the humans. The show progresses with Clrk in High School discovering who he is and the struggles of finding out about Kryptonight and its effects on him. The show brings in amazing characters such as Chloe Sullivan (played by Allison Mack) as Clark's best friend through out the series. Another favorite is Lois Lane though she comes dating the 4th season, Lois is funny, smart and one of the most iconic female leads of the Superman comics. Lois Lane is played by Erica Durance. The show will move from the small town of Smallville to the metropolitan area of Metropolis where Clark will begin his career as a journalist with Lois Lane in The Daily Planet.
This show helped us see superhero in a new light:
1-Humanized the superhero
With displaying the rollercoaster of emotions and feelings they face as well as struggles. In Smallville you see Clark in his most venerable states physically hurst by blue and green kryptonite Emotionally with his relationship withLana Lang and later on with Lois Lane and well as the lose of a parent and how it effected him. You see Clark not as a superhero capable of doing everything with a smile on his face like nothing fazes him but with the struggles of understanding how to control his powers such as heat vision. Clark struggles everyday with humanizing his abilities to be more normal and thats not easy.
2- A computer genius sidekick
Every superhero show now has a super genius computer geek and thats all thanks to Chloe Sullivan's character a.k.a Watchtower who created a new string role for that such as Felicity Smoak in Arrow. The computer geek basically is the whole operation whom helps the superhero know when something went wrong and what to do.
3- Understanding the origin of the superhero
With 40 min episodes the viewer gets to understand and learn more about the superhero's origins and abilities with the character through the span of time, you see developments and new revelations in how they became who they are today and what was the cause.
